A DYI CLOFFICE (THAT'S CLOSET TURNED OFFICE)
Often the best part about moving into a new home is the ability to make it your own. Every home is different and finding a way to position your furniture that is stylish yet functional can be a daunting task. If you’re lucky enough to have an extra bedroom to serve as a guest room, you’re faced with a common issue: where does the home office go? Sometimes you can find a solution in even the most mundane of spaces.
Turn an ordinary reach-in closet into a fabulous home office, complete with a mini library and chic lighting. Here’s how to create your own look…
Spice up the walls. Painting is messy and not worth the hassle especially if you’re in a rental. Use easily removable wallpaper panels to create the “WOW” factor and make this office truly your own. We chose this parrot motif from Chasing Paper to elevate the tiny space, making it appear larger, while giving an ordinary closet an unexpected, sophisticated punch.
Create Layers. Don’t let the wall decor stop at wallpaper. We added a bright juju hat to hang above the desk to bring in color and texture. Pro tip: stick with hues in the same family. If your wallpaper is cool-toned, stick with blues, purples, and greens as accent colors.
Get Comfy. Select a comfortable chair that looks amazing when not in use. You could even use an extra dining room chair as an option. Matching the metallics on the desk to the chair gives off a cohesive, glamorous vibe. Deep, jewel tones are your friends when it comes to mixing and matching colors.
Accessorize! A brass tabletop lamp with matching tray is the perfect way to pull the look together. A short lamp gives the extra light needed for your small space and a trinket tray can be used as a catch-all for jewelry or keys. Pick out something small and simple in style to maximize surface area of your workspace.
Storage is your friend. Add or use existing shelving to make the space extra cozy yet functional. Baskets are a great way to hide items that aren’t aesthetically pleasing but necessary. A shelf can be home to books or photo albums. This isn’t only a desk; this is a home office meant to invoke creativity and productivity. Fill it with treasures and keepsakes that make you smile.
